About this trail

๐Ÿ“ About this Trail

If you're looking for a hike that gives you a little bit of everything wadi landscapes, mountain climbs, viewpoints and a proper sense of achievement: Wadi Shawka's Three Summits trail is a great choice.

We started from the Wadi Shawka area and followed the trail into the mountains. The beginning is relatively easy, but the character of the hike changes once the climbing starts.

The trail takes you through three separate summit sections, with descents and climbs between them. The first summit is the main climb, followed by another section where you have the option to continue towards the third summit and its observation point.

The first climb definitely makes you work.

But once you're up, the views make you forget the effort. Looking back towards the wadi, the landscape opens up into a beautiful combination of rocky mountains, valleys and scattered greenery.

After descending from the first summit, we continued towards the next section. There are a few intersections along the route, so having the correct GPX track or a reliable offline map is useful.

The third summit was my favourite.

The trail climbs again before reaching an observation point with a wide view across the surrounding Hajar Mountains. Standing there after completing the climbs gives you that satisfying feeling that you came for not just walking through the mountains, but actually exploring them.

The complete loop is around 8 km, depending on the route variation. One mapped version records approximately 1,220 ft (372 m) of elevation gain and around 3 hours total time. Another three-summit version is about 6.6 km, so your exact distance will depend on which variation you follow.

The trail itself is generally well defined, with no technical climbing or rope sections on the documented route, but you still need reasonable fitness because of the repeated climbs and descents.

For me, that's what makes this hike enjoyable.

Three climbs. Three viewpoints. One beautiful mountain adventure.
