Wadi Haqeel is one of those places.
Hidden in the Hajar Mountains of Ras Al Khaimah, this beautiful wadi offers an easy and scenic 4WD drive through rocky valleys, dry riverbeds, and dramatic mountain landscapes. It's the kind of trail where you find yourself stopping every few kilometres—not because you have to, but because the views keep getting better.
Our drive started just after sunrise. The morning light painted the mountains in soft shades of gold while the cool breeze reminded us why winter is the best season to explore the UAE outdoors.
The route follows the natural wadi, winding between rocky cliffs and wide gravel sections. During the winter months, rainfall transforms parts of the valley with flowing water, small pools, and patches of greenery that contrast beautifully against the rugged mountains.
One of the things I enjoy most about Wadi Haqeel is the peaceful atmosphere.
There are no busy tourist spots or large crowds. Just mountain roads, open landscapes, and the freedom to explore at your own pace. Whether you're driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol, or any capable 4WD, the trail is enjoyable without being overly technical.
It's also a great place to stop for breakfast or a cup of karak while taking in the scenery. Sitting beside the wadi with nothing but mountains around you is a simple reminder that some of the best adventures don't need a detailed plan.
