Vattavada Off-Road Adventure – Rain, Recoveries & True Off-Road Brotherhood
Our Vattavada off-road trip brought together an amazing mix of vehicles and people. Two modified Beast 4x4s — a CJ and a Thar came from Bengaluru, I joined from Coimbatore in my Jimny, and two modified Bolero Beast Editions arrived from Kottayam.
We started on Friday and stayed overnight to relax before the adventure ahead.
⛽ An Unexpected Fuel Story
I planned to refuel in Idukki before reaching Munnar, but an unexpected local strike caught us off guard. My fuel was running dangerously low, and I ended up waiting at a fuel station for 2.5 hours.
Luckily, the CJ and Thar from Bengaluru had not yet crossed into Kerala. They came to my rescue with 20 litres of petrol!
That’s what makes the off-road community special — when someone needs help, others step in naturally. ❤️
🌧️ Vattavada Trails After the Rain
Heavy rain delayed our start until after 4 PM on Saturday. We knew the rain would make the Vattavada trails trickier, but that only added to the excitement.
Driving through the trails in the dark, climbing difficult sections and tackling muddy obstacles made the experience unforgettable. And, of course, there were recoveries — because what’s off-roading without a little winching and teamwork? 😄
🎶 From Mud Trails to Night Party
After an intense day on the trails, the fun continued with a night of singing, dancing and celebration. On Sunday, we said our goodbyes and started our journeys home.
We came from different cities in different vehicles, but shared the same passion.
The trails tested our machines, the rain tested our patience, and the community reminded us why we love off-roading.
❤️ Gypsy Overlanding Family Tip
Always carry enough fuel, especially in remote hill regions. But when unexpected challenges happen, a good off-road community can make all the difference.
Heavy rain can make hill trails slippery and recovery-intensive.
Check fuel availability and local restrictions before travelling.
Carry recovery gear, adequate lighting and suitable communication equipment.
Confirm trail access and weather conditions before entering forest or private land.
