Snake Gorge Canyon challenges your sense of adventure.

Hidden deep within Wadi Bani Awf, Snake Gorge is one of Oman's most exciting natural attractions. Unlike a typical hiking trail, this adventure takes you through narrow canyon walls, crystal-clear pools, giant boulders, and natural rock formations that have been carved by water over thousands of years.

After completing the spectacular mountain drive through Wadi Bani Awf, we parked our vehicles and prepared for a completely different kind of adventure.

The canyon immediately feels different.

Towering rock walls rise on both sides, gradually becoming narrower as you walk deeper inside. Sunlight only reaches parts of the canyon, creating a beautiful contrast between bright golden cliffs and cool blue pools hidden below.

Within minutes, we realised this wasn't an ordinary hike.

Some sections required scrambling over smooth boulders. Others involved walking through ankle-deep water before suddenly reaching pools deep enough to swim across. Every turn revealed another natural obstacle, making the entire journey feel like a giant outdoor adventure playground.

One of my favourite moments was entering one of the narrowest parts of the canyon.

The walls stood several metres high while the passage between them became so tight that only a few people could walk side by side. Looking up, all we could see was a narrow strip of blue sky.

It was peaceful.

It was exciting.

And unlike anywhere else I'd explored in Oman.

The further we travelled, the more impressive the canyon became. Waterfalls during the rainy season, emerald pools, smooth rock formations and the silence of the canyon make every step worthwhile.

Snake Gorge isn't simply a destination.

It's an experience where you'll climb, swim, scramble and laugh your way through one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the Hajar Mountains.
