📍 About this Trail
The name Slipface View gives you a pretty good idea of what this route is about.
This is a 19.7 km desert track through the Liwa landscape, following a route where the large dune faces become the main attraction.
If you've spent enough time driving in the UAE desert, you'll know that a dune doesn't look the same from every direction.
The slipface is the steep leeward side of a sand dune, and seeing these large slopes up close gives you a completely different perspective of the Liwa desert.
The track recorded in our GPX starts around 22.999598, 53.763976 and continues through the desert towards 22.964956, 53.594576.
It's not an extremely long route, but the landscape makes it feel much bigger.
As you move through the desert, the dunes become the focus. Some sections are open and flowing, while others bring you closer to the larger dune faces.
For an overlanding group, this is the kind of route where you want to slow down rather than simply chase the next kilometre.
Stop the vehicle.
Walk up a dune.
Look across the slipface.
And you'll understand why these landscapes are worth travelling for.
