About this trail
๐ About this Trail
Not every Liwa desert route is about climbing the biggest dune.
Sometimes the fun is in following the sandtracks and crossing the sabkah landscape.
The Sandtracks and Sabkah route in our KML is a short desert track of approximately 4.16 km, located in the Liwa desert region.
The track starts around:
๐ 23.035777, 53.756884
and finishes around:
๐ 23.030448, 53.791611
It's a relatively short route, but the name tells you what makes this part of the desert interesting.
Sandtracks give you a route to follow through the open desert, while sabkah refers to low-lying salt-flat terrain commonly found in desert environments.
This isn't a route I'd describe as a long expedition.
Instead, it's a nice short 4x4 exploration section that can be included as part of a larger Liwa desert camping trip.
You can spend some time driving the track, stop for photographs and then continue towards your chosen camping area.
The beauty here is in the contrast.
You have the soft desert sand and tracks on one side, while the flatter sabkah landscape gives the surroundings a completely different character.
For overlanders, these shorter tracks are useful because they allow you to experience a different type of Liwa terrain without committing to a very long desert crossing.
๐ Combine With Other Liwa Tracks
