About this trail

📍 About this Trail

This was a completely different kind of off-road experience for me.

My son and I joined a group from Chennai, with five off-road vehicles heading out to explore the Palar river area.

We had driven through deserts, mountains and dirt tracks before, but driving inside a river landscape was something new for both of us.

The day was hot—really hot.

But once we entered the river area, the excitement of exploring an unfamiliar trail took over.

The route wasn't a simple flat drive. We had to navigate through the river-bed terrain, moving up and down across the natural contours of the area.

Sometimes it was difficult to understand what was ahead.

There were sections where the vehicle went down into the river-bed and then climbed back up again. Every turn brought a slightly different surface and another small challenge.

For me, that was the most enjoyable part.

You don't know exactly what the next few metres are going to look like.

Driving with five vehicles also made the experience much more comfortable. We could keep an eye on each other and help if anyone needed assistance.

And having my son with me made the trip even more memorable.

It wasn't just another off-road drive.

It was something we could experience together.

đźš™ The River-Bed Experience

The biggest difference from our usual desert or mountain drives was the terrain.

Instead of dunes or a defined mountain track, we were navigating a natural river landscape with uneven sections and changes in elevation.

The vehicle was constantly moving through small ups and downs, which made the drive interesting.

You need to pay attention to where you're placing the wheels and understand what lies ahead before committing to a section.

This is where travelling with an experienced group really helps.

👨‍👦 Driving With My Son

For me, this was probably the most special part of the trip.

My son and I were in the vehicle together, experiencing something completely new.

The heat was intense, the terrain was unfamiliar and we didn't know exactly what was waiting around the next section.

But that's what makes these trips memorable.

Years later, I may not remember every kilometre we drove; but I'll remember doing it with my son.
