Khor Najd Musandam | Scenic Mountain Drive & Beach Camping

📍 About this Trail

Some road trips are about covering kilometres.

Others are about collecting unforgettable memories.

Our journey to Khor Najd was one of those trips.

A small group of five 4WD vehicles crossed from the UAE into Musandam, Oman, not knowing exactly what to expect beyond the mountains. We'd all seen photographs of Khor Najd, but pictures never truly prepare you for the drive.

The road climbs steadily through the mountains, and with every hairpin bend, the views become even more dramatic. The higher we climbed, the more the rugged cliffs revealed the spectacular coastline below.

Then came the viewpoint.

Everyone stopped.

Engines were switched off, cameras came out, and for a few minutes nobody said much. Far below us was Khor Najd, a narrow turquoise inlet surrounded by steep mountains, looking more like a Norwegian fjord than somewhere in the Arabian Peninsula.

From the viewpoint, the road descends towards the beach through a series of winding mountain curves. It's one of the most enjoyable mountain drives in Oman, offering incredible scenery from start to finish.

Once we reached the shoreline, everything slowed down.

The sea was calm.

The mountains stood quietly around us.

There were no hotels, no crowds, and no city noise, just a peaceful beach tucked away between towering cliffs.

We spent the rest of the evening setting up camp, sharing food, watching the sunset, and talking around a small campfire. As darkness fell, the stars slowly appeared above the mountains, and the silence was unlike anything we experience back home.

That night reminded me why I love overlanding.

It's not always about difficult trails or challenging obstacles.

Sometimes it's about driving with good friends, finding a quiet place far from the city, and waking up to a view you'll never forget.
