About this trail
๐ About this Trail
Some mountain drives are worth taking simply for the views.
Jabal Sayh is one of those places.
Located around A'Sahaseh in Musandam, Oman, Jabal Sayh offers a beautiful combination of rugged mountains, wadis, limestone formations and traditional mountain settlements.
We started the drive from Khasab, heading towards the mountains on a graded road that slowly leaves the developed areas behind.
The route is accessible only by 4x4, and the drive itself is part of the adventure.
As you climb higher, the landscape changes. The limestone mountains become more dramatic, and eventually the road reaches the Sayh plateau.
One of the things that makes this place special is seeing signs of traditional mountain life along the way.
We came across donkeys, stone settlements and small signs of life among the mountains. It feels very different from the coastal side of Musandam, where most visitors spend their time.
Once you reach the plateau, take your time.
Get out of the vehicle, walk around and enjoy the mountain silence. The surrounding scenery makes Jabal Sayh a great choice for a day trip, camping adventure or longer Musandam overlanding journey.
The route can also be combined with Wadi Biyah, making the trip even more interesting for 4x4 enthusiasts.
๐ก Gypsy Overlanding Family Tip
The best part of Jabal Sayh isn't simply reaching the highest point.
It's the drive up.
The limestone formations, quiet mountain roads, traditional stone settlements and occasional donkeys make you realise that people have adapted to this rugged landscape for generations.
Take the 4x4, slow down and let the mountains tell the story.
