About this trail

Place: Rahba Dam, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE
Type: Mountain, Hiking, Rocks & Dam
Difficulty: Moderate
Best Time: October – April
Recommended: Go with a team

Sometimes the best places are the ones you almost don't believe you'll find.

We were exploring Ras Al Khaimah with the family when I came across a small street between houses.

Honestly, I wasn't convinced.

Could this little road really lead to the mountains?

We continued anyway.

And suddenly, the landscape changed.

The small road opened towards a dirt track with beautiful rocky mountains rising on both sides. What looked like an ordinary street had taken us into a completely different world.

Into the Mountains

The entrance to the area is around:

25.927915, 56.066864

From here, the dirt track takes you towards the rocky mountain area.

The further we went, the more interesting the landscape became.

Huge rocks on both sides.

Mountain walls.

Quiet surroundings.

And very little of the modern world around us.

There are hiking and rock-climbing areas in this region, so this isn't somewhere I would recommend exploring casually or alone.

A Small Cave

One of the interesting points we discovered was a small cave area around:

25.929854519571364, 56.0779296174977

It was one of those little discoveries that made the drive even more enjoyable.

You never know what you will find when you explore these mountain tracks.

The Dam

There is also a dam in the area, located around:

25.92519681101491, 56.072142086506034

The combination of the dam, rocky mountains and dirt tracks makes this a beautiful area for a short family adventure.

Go With a Team

There are hiking sections around the mountains, but I strongly recommend doing them with a team.

The terrain can be rocky and uneven, and mountain conditions can change quickly. RAK authorities also advise hikers to plan ahead, carry enough water, check conditions and never hike alone.

For us, the best part was simply discovering the place together as a family.

Gypsy Overlanding Family Tip ❤️

What I remember most isn't the dam or even the rocks.

It's that moment when I was sitting between those houses wondering whether the road would actually lead anywhere.

Then suddenly...

Mountains. Rocks. Dirt tracks. Silence.

Sometimes you don't need a famous destination.

You just need the curiosity to take that unexpected turn.

That's where some of the best family adventures begin.
