For a short mountain drive, I would still keep the essentials ready:

• 🩹 Basic first-aid kit

🚙 Recovery Equipment

Even short trails can surprise you.

• Recovery rope

• Air compressor

• Tyre repair kit

• Full-size spare tyre

• Shovel

• Basic recovery tools

Early morning is ideal for this type of trail.

The weather is more comfortable, the light is better for photography and the mountain landscape feels much quieter.

If you're travelling during the monsoon, be prepared for completely different trail conditions.

🌅 Best Time of Day

Morning is definitely my choice.

There is something refreshing about getting into the vehicle early, leaving the busy roads behind and spending the first part of the day in the mountains.

🌦️ Weather

Coorg's weather can change quickly.

Wet conditions can make mountain trails slippery and muddy, so check the weather before heading out.

A short trail in dry conditions can become a very different experience after heavy rain.

3.9 km doesn't sound like an adventure.

But when those kilometres take you into the mountains, through changing terrain and away from the normal roads, the distance doesn't really matter.

This was simply a Saturday morning activity for us.

No complicated itinerary.

No long-distance expedition.

Just a 4x4, a mountain trail and a few hours to enjoy the Western Ghats.

Sometimes a small adventure is exactly what you need to make an ordinary weekend memorable.

• Check access before entering.

• Respect private property.

• Don't assume a GPX track means public access.

• Check weather conditions.

• Carry recovery equipment.

• Don't drive aggressively on narrow mountain tracks.

• Watch for pedestrians, local vehicles and farm access.

• Avoid disturbing wildlife.

• Take all rubbish with you.
