Balad Sayt Village – One of Oman's Most Beautiful Mountain Villages

If someone asked me to recommend one mountain drive in Oman that combines dramatic roads, breathtaking scenery, traditional villages and unforgettable off-road adventure, my answer would always be Balad Sayt.

The journey is just as rewarding as the destination.

Our trip began after spending the night at Shorfet Al Alamin Hotel, a beautiful mountain viewpoint overlooking endless valleys. We started early the next morning, knowing the real adventure was about to begin. If you're travelling with camping gear, there are several scenic places near the hotel where you can camp under the stars before continuing your drive.

The route towards Balad Sayt winds through the spectacular Hajar Mountains, passing rugged cliffs, deep wadis and narrow mountain roads. Every few kilometers we found ourselves stopping, not because we had to, but because the views kept getting better.

Unlike smooth highway driving, this route constantly demands your attention. Narrow roads hug the mountain edges, steep climbs are followed by equally steep descents, and sharp hairpin bends reveal breathtaking scenery around every corner.

One of the highlights before reaching the village is Sharaf Rock Cliff, where the panoramic mountain views stretch for kilometers. Further along, you'll pass the famous Audi Bilad Sayt Football Field, probably one of the most unusual football grounds you'll ever see, surrounded entirely by towering mountains.

Then suddenly...

The mountains open up.

In the middle of this rugged landscape appears a vibrant green oasis.

That's Balad Sayt.

The contrast is unbelievable. Traditional stone houses, date palm plantations, terraced farms and narrow pathways sit peacefully among massive mountain walls. It almost feels like stepping back in time.

We parked near the village mosque and spent nearly an hour simply walking through its narrow lanes. Friendly locals greeted us with smiles, children played near the farms, and the sound of flowing irrigation water echoed through the village.

Walking up to the old watchtower gave us one of the best views of the entire valley. Looking down from above, the green farms against the dark brown mountains created one of the most beautiful landscapes we've seen in Oman.

Reaching Balad Sayt isn't easy.
