About this trail
📍 About this Trail
Some mountain destinations are famous because everyone knows about them.
Al Halah Mountain is different.
Tucked around the Fujairah–Ras Al Khaimah mountain region, Jabal Al Halah rises to about 637 metres and sits close to the Shawka area. It is also known as Jabal Al Hinnah or Jabal Halah.
Our interest in this area wasn't about reaching a famous summit. It was about getting into the mountains, following the rough tracks and seeing what was waiting beyond the main roads.
The landscape changes quickly.
The flat roads disappear behind you and the Hajar Mountains begin to dominate the view. Rocky tracks wind between small settlements, farms and dry valleys, with plenty of places to stop and simply enjoy the surroundings.
What makes the area interesting for an overlanding trip is the combination of mountain driving and village landscapes. Routes around Al Halah connect with nearby agricultural areas and wadis, giving you the feeling that you're exploring a completely different side of the UAE.
One documented off-road route between Adhan and Al Halah covers about 46 km, with roughly 652 m of elevation gain and a moderate difficulty rating.
The mountain itself isn't about extreme off-roading.
It's about taking your time.
Drive slowly through the rocky sections, stop at viewpoints, explore the surrounding valleys and enjoy the contrast between the rugged mountains and green agricultural areas.
For me, that's what makes these lesser-known mountain routes special.
You don't need a packed itinerary.
Just a capable 4WD, good company and enough time to explore.
