Southern side of city walls
The city of Sumhuram was completely enclosed by imposing city wall. Two gates, one monumental and a small one leading to the harbor, interrupted walls.
The side towards lagoon did not present any way out. The passage is visible here did not exist in ancient times.
City Gate
The city gate of Sumhuram was an imposing defensive structure. The way was steep and blocked by three successive wooden doors.
The External Temple
This is a small temple with three rooms. A cubic podium at he center of the north-east wall was perfectly aligned with the entrance. A narrow bench runs round the walls of the room and around the podium. The temple is of the same period as the earliest phase of Sumhuram.
