Balcony Walk

Reports describe a four-hour return walk marked with painted flags. The terrain is not technically hard, but the steep drop beside the path can cause dizziness and it is not suited to people with vertigo. A reporter turned back halfway. Walk only if you are comfortable with exposure and keep well back from the edge.

W4 and the summits

The South Summit is open via the marked W4 trail, while the North Summit hosts a military base and is restricted. Do not approach restricted areas. Height figures differ between sources.

Access and weather

  • The road is mostly paved; the last 7 km are unpaved and graded, with 4WD recommended but not required (reported).
  • It is cooler at the top, with snow possible in winter.
  • Do not enter wadis after heavy rain; see Oman hiking safety.
  • Carry a torch if you may be out after dark, and expect cold nights.
