The fort

The fort was a stronghold and first line of defence, then the ruler's palace, and later a police station. During renovation two wind towers and two watchtowers were kept.

What you will see

  • Local history, lifestyles and traditional professions.
  • Archaeological artefacts, manuscripts and old weapons.
  • An excavated cemetery from Al Muwaihat with pottery and funeral jewellery from about 3000 BC.
  • A pearl-fishing section and a ship display.

Planning notes

The museum is in central Ajman near the corniche and local souqs. Opening hours and tickets are not given in the sources used here, so check with the Ajman tourism authority. Ajman's cluster is smaller than some others because few sources could be verified; see the pearling story in neighbouring Umm Al Quwain.
